14TH MAJOR LABOR ORGANIZATION TO BACK KEATING IN DEM PRIMARY

(QUINCY, MA) - Joining a growing list of influential organizations that represent tens of thousands of working families, the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 791 today endorsed Norfolk District Attorney Bill Keating for Congress in Massachusetts' 10th District Democratic Primary.

UFCW Local 791 joins the New England Regional Council of Carpenters, American Federation of Teachers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2222, International Brotherhood of Police Officers, National Association of Government Employees, SEIU Local 5000, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 103, Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Pipefitters 537, Norfolk County Labor Council, Plymouth/Bristol Labor Council, Ironworkers Local 7, and the South Shore Building Trades.

"We're supporting Bill Keating because we know that no one is going to fight harder than Bill to create jobs and get our economy moving in the right direction again. Bill has been a champion for working families throughout his career, and he's the type of leader and fighter we need in Washington," said Peter Derouen, Political Director of UFCW 791. "Bill has been there when working families needed him most and now he's ready to go to Washington to shake things up and get the results we need."

"I'm honored to have the support of UFCW and so many organizations that represent tens of thousands of working families in this district," said Keating. "Wherever I go, I meet people who are struggling to pay their bills, put food on the table, and make ends meet. I've met dozens of seniors who are struggling on a fixed income and recent college grads who can't find jobs. I've met families who are afraid of losing their homes. There's a lot of inaction in Congress and I'll go up to Washington to shake things up and get results," continued Keating. "We need to give small businesses the tax credits and access to loans so that they can start hiring again, invest in rebuilding our infrastructure, cut wasteful spending, and change the way Congress is doing business."

UFCW Local 791 has over a 50-year history of representing workers throughout New England. From the local’s beginning just after World War II to the present day, Local 791 has fought to better the lives of working families by fighting for better wages, benefits and working conditions. As the times changed so did the Local. Local 791 has transitioned from a small independent union to an affiliate of one of the largest international unions in the United States. UFCW’s 1.3 million national members work in a range of industries, with the majority working in retail food, meatpacking and poultry, food processing and manufacturing, and retail stores.
