Teachers Endorse Keating in Democratic Primary

10th Major Group to Back Keating in open seat race

(Quincy, MA) – Citing his long standing commitment to quality education for all children, the American Federation of Teachers/Massachusetts today endorsed Bill Keating for Congress in Massachusetts’ 10th District Democratic primary. Today’s endorsement signals growing support for Keating from organizations representing tens of thousands of working families in the district, including: International Brotherhood of Police Officers, National Association of Government Employees, SEIU Local 5000, Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Norfolk Labor Council, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 2222, Plymouth/Bristol Labor Council, South Shore Building Trades and Pipefitters 537.

“We’re supporting Bill Keating for Congress because we know he’ll go to Washington to get results for our children and teachers. Bill will fight to make sure that teachers have the tools they needs so that children throughout the 10th District will succeed and compete on a global level,” said AFT Massachusetts President Thomas Gosnell. “Bill Keating has been a major advocate for our children as a District Attorney, and he’ll be their biggest advocate as our next Congressman.”

“I am gratified to have the support of a group of teachers who work hard to make sure that our children get the type of education they need to have a successful future,” Keating said. “In my work as District Attorney I worked hard to reduce substance abuse, underage access to alcohol, and classroom bullying. In Congress, I will fight to make education a top priority, because our children are our future. We must make sure that our educators, parents, and students have the resources they need to be successful.”
AFT Massachusetts represents 22,000 employees, including public school teachers, paraprofessionals, public school nurses, clerical staff, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, and custodians throughout the state.
