MACHINISTS BACK KEATING IN 10TH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL PRIMARY
Campaign continues to win widespread support & generate momentum June 7, 2010
Joining a growing list of groups that represent working families in Massachusetts, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM&AW) recently voted to endorse Bill Keating (D-Quincy) in the Democratic Primary for the 10th Congressional District. IAM&AW represents more than 3,000 machinists throughout Massachusetts.
“Bill Keating has always shown unwavering support for working men and women across this state. He has been a good friend to labor,” said James Connor, President of the Massachusetts Council of Machinists. “We know Bill will fight hard to protect the rights of working families, and he will work with labor and small businesses to help create jobs. We know that Bill Keating will not forget us when he goes to Washington as our representative from the 10th District.”
In addition to this latest endorsement, Keating has also won the support of the National Association of Government Employees, International Brotherhood of Police Officers, and SEIU Local 5000, representing 22,000 members in Massachusetts and an additional 30,000 federal, municipal, EMS, and public safety members nationwide. Keating’s candidacy has also been endorsed by the Pipefitters 537 and the Norfolk County Labor Council.
“I am extremely pleased to receive the support of the machinists and aerospace workers of Massachusetts,” Keating said. “I have great respect for the work these men and women accomplish each day. They are truly the backbone of this great country.”
“I have met people throughout the 10th District who tell me they are uncertain about their families’ future and many others who are looking for jobs,” Keating said. “My number one priority will be to invest in our communities and create decent jobs that will provide a secure future for families throughout the 10th District. It’s time to start investing in our working-class families and put America back to work.”
