Meet Bill Keating

While Washington continues to engage in partisan bickering, Bill Keating is taking on tough fights and winning them for Massachusetts families.

As a District Attorney, Bill Keating has pursued some of Massachusetts’ toughest cases, making our communities safer and stronger. He knows how to balance a budget and meet a payroll. He has worked on community-based crime prevention. He has cracked down on white-collar criminals who committed financial crimes against the public and cybercriminals who thought they could hide behind a screen. Most importantly, the job has given him a unique view into the needs of our families, children and communities. As a lawmaker, he sought commonsense solutions for the problems our families are facing. But it's not just what Bill Keating has done that makes him the best candidate for Congress, it's how he did it – with integrity, independence and vision.

The son of a Police Officer who served in the SeaBees in WWII and then became a Veterans Services Agent, Bill put himself through Boston College by working at his local post office. He learned the values of public service and hard work at a very early age and has put them to work for us.

In the State House, Bill took on Beacon Hill politics as usual and gained a reputation for being willing to stand up to his own party's leadership in favor of tough but necessary reforms – and to help the taxpayer. He helped improve our public safety laws, worked to protect consumers, targeted drug traffickers, protected victims of crime and passed commonsense environmental protections. Keating has been a fierce defender of the environment, writing the tough law that protects lakes and streams in Massachusetts from chemical pollution, ended the sales tax on services and the estate tax – and then led the fight to pass a Victims Bill of Rights. During his time in the State House, Bill Keating served his district with the same type of dedication and commitment that he has shown as District Attorney.

To protect our seniors, District Attorney Keating worked to prevent senior abuse, cracked down on dishonest caregivers, and informed seniors about financial exploitation and scams that specifically target them.

To protect our kids, District Attorney Keating developed anti-bullying, violence prevention, safety planning, internet safety, suicide prevention, and underage drinking prevention resources provided to schools and parents at no cost – and often funded with dollars confiscated from drug dealers. In a time of budget cuts and getting by with less, he helped found Norfolk Advocates for Children, Inc., a non-profit Child Advocacy Center for children who have been sexually and physically abused. He used confiscated drug money to outfit a state-of-the-art computer forensics lab in the District Attorney’s Office and made it available to police departments across the region.

To protect our families, District Attorney Keating has worked to reduce incidences of domestic violence, has cracked down on white-collar criminals, scam artists and sexual predators, and has brought law enforcement and community members together to increase crime prevention efforts.

Now Bill is ready to shake things up in Washington and get the results our families deserve -- by bringing his tough, smart and effective problem-solving approach to Washington -- a place that sorely needs it.

Bill and his wife, Tevis, have two college-age children, Kristen and Patrick.
